An Isle of Wight resident has won £30,000 thanks to his lucky postcode — and he intends to use the money to marry his long-term girlfriend.

27-year-old Cameron Talbott, who is a second officer on board a superyacht, netted the windfall after PO35 5NT in Bembridge was announced as a winner with People’s Postcode Lottery.

Cameron first found out about his prize win during a video call with lottery ambassador Matt Johnson. On seeing his prize cheque he said:

“Wow. That’s amazing. I’m lost for words.”

Cameron immediately knew what he was planning to spend his winnings on:

“My long-term girlfriend. I think it’s time to make her officially my wife!”

“She’s American and in San Diego at the moment. We’ve been childhood friends since we were about eight-years-old. We spent about 15 years apart and met each other in 2018 again.”

Asked if he had plans on how to make the proposal, Cameron said: "not yet, but this money will help it!”

Due to his work, Cameron frequently needs to travel but was thrilled that a postcode from his childhood home had brought him a prize:

“I grew up in the village, Bembridge has always been our home. I live just down the road from my childhood home so it’s perfect for me.”

Outside of his proposal plans, Cameron wasn’t too sure how he would spend the rest of his winnings but he did have one idea:

“I’m into cars, so maybe I’ll get myself a new one. I’ll definitely be having a few drinks tonight!”

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Matt Johnson sent his well-wishes to Cameron.

He said:

“I’m so happy that the prize is going to go towards the future of Cameron’s romance and help him propose.

“I’m delighted for Cameron and I hope he enjoys spending the win and treats himself with the prize money.”

Everyday throughout the July draws one postcode will be announced as a £30,000 prize winner. All the players in the postcode will win £30,000 for every ticket they hold.

People’s Postcode Lottery costs £10 a month to play and there are guaranteed winners every day. People play with their chosen postcode and are automatically entered into all draws.
