Ventnor Community Foodbank Open On Saturdays Due To Rising Demand

Volunteers running Ventnor Community Foodbank say it has had its busiest week yet and will now be open on Saturdays to support Islanders and their families.

The foodbank - which operates out of the Baptist Church in Pier Street was saved from closure in the summer, as previously reported.

Volunteers in the local community stepped in to take over running it - but differently to how it had been operated in the past - vwhen it was supported by the Trussell Trust.

Instead, you don’t need a voucher or a referral to use it - you just need to turn up.

The Foodbank had its busiest week last week, feeding 58 people and 28 of those were children.

Co-ordinator of the Foodbank Suzie Metcalfe told Isle of Wight Radio:

“It has been going really really well, we have had some very generous donations from the public and businesses that are supporting us...This last week we were very very busy and last Thursday we fed 41 people and 20 of those were children.

“There are donation points in Ventnor, the Co-op, Tescos, Carnaby’s, Boots and Norris’ in Nitton.”

The service is available on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays 10-12.

Ventnor Community Foodbank is now open on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon. We are...
