'Vanishing' Plans Leave Third Isle Of Wight Ferry Service Proposal Aground

Plans for a third vehicle ferry service on the Isle of Wight seem to have vanished.

The idea of a new community ferry service operating on the Island was first made public in October last year.

The Isle of Wight Council was asked to back ‘in principle’ the proposed route and was originally set to find out more and debate the issue at a cabinet meeting in November.

Since then, however, the item has been pushed back further and further until it now no longer appears on the latest version of the authority’s forward plan, which was published on Wednesday (March 2).

The council’s website does suggest the item will come back before the authority in June.

Speaking about the community ferry service, an Isle of Wight Council spokesperson said previous discussions with the project promoters had not yet reached a position where a formal stance by the council was being sought.

The council was being asked to consider providing a letter of support to the Island-based consortium proposing the development of the service.

Back in October, it was said the consortium would be consulting the public and key agencies about the principle of the proposal. A public consultation has not yet been announced.
