"Use Imagination”: Sight For Wight's Short Story Competition Launches

Sight for Wight

Sight for Wight has launched its short story writing competition and the winners will have theirs published and made into an audiobook voiced by a celebrity.

The oldest charity on the Island is celebrating 125 years of supporting visually impaired Islanders, their families and carers.

The theme for this year’s competition, which is in its fifth year is “the wish”.

Prizes are currently being co-ordinated but previous winners have received Red Funnel or Wightlink vouchers, an Amazon Echo Dot, cash or vouchers to some of the Island’s attractions.

The charity’s celebrity readers for the audiobooks this year are Joe Brand, Edana Minghella, Melvin Hayes and Ray Allen.

Chris Cane, Marketing and Communications Manager at Sight for Wight told Isle of Wight Radio:

“It will be open to anyone who wants to take part and we want people’s imagination to run wild...The winners will have their story recorded by a celebrity...The quality of the stories we had last year was fantastic and the children’s stories are just incredible to read so we hope we will have a lot of people who will take part.”

  • 12 – 17 (up to 750 words)
  • Under 12s (up to 750 words)

Lisa Hollyhead CEO of the charity told Isle of Wight Radio:
