Troubled Floating Bridge Not Returning Until Mid November As 'Extent Of Damage Is Greater'

The Floating Bridge

The troubled Floating Bridge will not return until mid-November after a 'major fault' was found with a main engine.

The vessel was taken out of service on 26 August, just before the Isle of Wight Festival.

The Isle of Wight Council says the extent of the damage is greater than first thought.

A spokesperson for the local authority said:

'Work continues to return the floating bridge to service as swiftly and safely as possible.

'Unfortunately, the latest report from our specialist contractors is that the extent of the damage is greater than originally anticipated and the repairs will take longer to complete.

'The service is now not expected to resume until mid-November.

'We can only apologise for the ongoing disruption to the service caused by a major fault with one of the vessel's main engines.'

The launch service for foot passengers and cyclists will continue to operate from 5am until 11pm (6.30am until 11pm Sundays).
