Tributes have been paid to a well-known face in the world of Isle of Wight amateur dramatics and beyond, Peter Boffin, who sadly passed away in January.

Perhaps best known on the Island for his performances with both the Apollo and the Niton-based Pepperpot Players, Peter was a well-loved and friendly face both on-stage and off, with credits including 'Gypsy', Guys and Dolls', 'The Happiest Days of Your Life', and an endless list of more in his many years of involvement.

The Islands theatrics weren't his only credits, however, as Peter - born in the Home Counties in 1932 - started his showbiz career at the BBC, before moving to the newly founded ITV in the 1960s.

Working on some of the corporations' biggest television shows as a vision mixer, he quickly became a familiar face to many of the stars of the time, including Morecambe and Wise, Tommy Steele, Shirley Bassey, and Tommy Cooper.

In later life, Peter and his wife, Rita, moved to the Isle of Wight to retire in 1994 quickly became well embedded within the local community - although despite best-laid plans, 'retirement' saw Peter carrying on his legendary TV work with both TV12 and Solent TV, as well as becoming a familiar voice to the Island's blind community when recording tapes of local news articles for them to listen to.

Peter Boffin sadly passed away on January 7, aged 88, and leaves behind his wife Rita and two daughters. His name, however, will live on both on-screen and in memory.
