TRAVEL: Live Updates As Storm Alex Batters Isle Of Wight

Fallen trees, crashes and cancellations - Storm Alex has hit the Isle of Wight.

A weather warning for heavy rain and wind is in force, with Islanders warned to expect gusts of up to 65mph.

The adverse weather is causing cancellations on Hovertravel. It's expected to be off for a large part of the day.

Tree down on Whitecross Lane, Shanklin.

Emergency services have already been at a crash in Arreton this morning (Friday). Two people were cut free from a car, as Isle of Wight Radio first reported.

We're also hearing reports of a fallen tree on Sandown Road, before the turning to Cemetary Road.

Isle of Wight Radio listeners say there are tree branches on the roads between Sandown and Newport, and Newport, Rookley and Sandford.

Due to a train fault between Ryde Pier Head and Shanklin fewer trains are able to run on all lines. Train services running to and from these stations will be reduced to an hourly service. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

There are reports of trees down near the Waverley Pub in Carisbrooke, on Whitecross Lane near Aldi in Lake and Coach Lane in Brading.

Pound Lane, Calbourne. Island Roads.

Blackwater Hollow, Newport, Gatehouse Road, Ryde and Pound Lane in Calbourne are both closed for the removal of a fallen tree.

*Updated 12pm
