Thunderstorm Warning For The Isle Of Wight Tonight (Wednesday)

A yellow thunderstorm warning has been issued for the Isle of Wight tonight (Wednesday).

The Met Office says the alert is in place from 7pm until 3am tomorrow morning (Thursday).

Isle of Wight Met Service is warning of heavy downpours with the risk of lightning mixed in.

"This will move away to the northeast and leave things mostly dry as we move into the early hours", the local forecaster said.

Islanders are told to expect:

  • Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services, as well as possible power cuts
  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, with damage due to floodwater or lightning strikes.
