Three Stranded After 42ft Yacht Grounds At Ryde Sands

Three people were left stranded after the 42 foot yacht they were sailing on ran aground yesterday (Sunday).

Ryde Rescue teams were called to an area of Ryde sands just after 2.30pm.

Crews took one person, who was suffering with seasickness, back to shore along with their partner.

Efforts were then made the refloat the vessel. At 6pm, two of the lifeboat volunteers tried to assist the owner who had been left onboard.

However, the engine had developed cooling issues and the owner was unable to sail on his own. 

The boat was towed back to its berth in Haslar Marina in Portsmouth Harbour.

Ryde Rescue returned to base just after 9.10pm.
