Three Further Isle Of Wight Schools Report Covid-19 Cases

A further three schools on the Isle of Wight have reported a Covid-19 diagnosis within their communities.

In two of the cases, the Isle of Wight Council has confirmed that entire classes and their associated staff are self-isolating.

In a third case, the school says affected persons are following official guidance, which includes self-isolating — but it has been told by Public Health England that the rest of its community is already taking sufficient precautions, given the date of diagnosis.

The schools affected in part by self-isolation are:

  • Greenmount Primary School in Ryde, where the Year 'R' bubble and associated staff are self-isolating;
  • St. Thomas Primary School, in Carisbrooke, Newport, where the Year 2 class bubble and four other staff members have been required to self-isolate.

St. Saviour's Primary School at Totland Bay has been told by PHE its existing actions and precautions (including self-isolation for those involved) are enough.

According to the Isle of Wight Council, staff, parents and carers have all been informed — and the self-isolating pupils will receive high quality remote learning throughout their period of self-isolation.

Here are the three statements issued regarding the Covid-19 diagnoses:

Greenmount Primary School

Sam Cox, headteacher of Greenmount Primary School, Ryde, has confirmed that a member of the school community has received a positive test result for Covid-19.

The school has rigorously followed the advice of Public Health England, and following this, the Year R bubble and associated staff members have been required to self-isolate.

The rest of the school will remain open for all other staff and students. Staff, parents and carers have all been informed and the self-isolating pupils will receive high quality remote learning throughout their period of self-isolation.

St Saviour's Primary School

Headteacher Gina Owrid has confirmed that a member of the St Saviours Primary School community has tested positive for Covid-19.

The school has rigorously followed the advice of Public Health England, accessed through the Department for Education official advice service, and any affected persons are following official guidance, including self-isolating for the necessary periods as directed.

In the circumstances, due to the timeframes involved since the person with the positive test result was last in school, Public Health England have advised that no further action is required and that parents and families can be reassured that all recommended precautionary actions have been taken. No further action is required from parents or families of any children that attend the school.

St Thomas Primary School

Maggie Sanderson, headteacher of St Thomas Primary School, has confirmed that a member of the school community has received a positive test result for Covid-19.

The school has rigorously followed the advice of Public Health England, and following this, the Year 2 class bubble and four other staff members have been required to self-isolate.

The rest of the school will remain open for all other staff and students.

Staff, parents and carers have all been informed and the self-isolating pupils will receive high quality remote learning throughout their period of self-isolation.
