Three men have been arrested after a car collided with a lamppost and safety railings on Newport's Forest Road last night (Friday).
Hampshire Police said they were called at 10.23pm to a report of a single vehicle collision in which a Nissan Quashquai had collided with a lamppost - with the occupants of the vehicle reported to be running away from the scene.
A search was carried out, and three men were subsequently arrested.
A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said:
"A 25-year-old man from Newport was arrested on suspicion of driving motor vehicle when alcohol level above limit, but was later released with no further action.
"A 27-year-old man from Newport was arrested on suspicion of using a motor vehicle on a road / public place without third party insurance, driving whilst disqualified, aggravated vehicle taking, failing to stop after a road accident and driving whilst unfit through drink. He remains in police custody at this time.
"A 29-year-old man from Newport was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, theft, and failing to stop after a road accident. He also remains in police custody at this time."
