Terry Lights Up Long Lane For Two Isle Of Wight Charities

Long Lane's iconic Christmas lights display, organised by Islander Terry Ramplin, is set to switch on tonight — accompanied by a marching band and Father Christmas.

Terry and his wife Sue have been lighting up their home at 68 Long Lane, Staplers for the last 22 years — raising almost £40,000 for local charities.

This year's display will be raising funds for Daisy Chain IW Children's Charity and the Isle of Wight Prostate Cancer Support Group.

Tonight's opening event will get underway with the Vectis Corps of Drums playing Christmas songs from 5.45pm. The lights will switch on at 6pm.

Terry said:

"We've got mulled wine, sausage rolls and all the trimmings. Just bring a donation. It'll be lovely for the charities."

Many local charities have benefited from Terry's generous donations over the years, including Ability Dogs 4 Young Persons, Homestart, The Cancer Unit at St Mary's Hospital, Lottie Rann Trust, Medina House School and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, to name a few.

"It's only one little house. And it's me and the wife 90% of the time that's put this together over all these years. But what's really nice is when I meet people that it's helped."
