Teenager - Hit By A Car In Lake - 'Likely To Make Full Recovery' Say Police

A teenager - hit by a car in Lake last week - is likely to make a full recovery, according to police.

Hampshire Constabulary says the driver was not at fault for the incident, which happened on Sandown Road.

Officers say a 16-year-old boy was "crossing the road whilst distracted by his headphones and/or mobile phone."

As Isle of Wight Radio previously reported, he was taken to hospital with head injuries after being struck by a Volkswagon Polo on Lake Bridge on Thursday (25).

Isle of Wight police say the teen's injuries are not as serious as first feared:

"I am delighted to be able to update you that the injured party is likely to make a full recovery and is not as seriously injured as it first appeared, which is great news.

"The second reason for the update is to make clear that the driver of the vehicle involved was NOT at fault for the incident, with the injured party making a mistake many of us will have made in the past (usually without severe consequences), which was crossing the road whilst distracted by his headphones and / or mobile phone. Also had the driver not been keeping to the speed limit, this could have been a much more severe outcome for the injured party."
