Suspected Ordnance Found At Shanklin Beach

BREAKING: A piece of suspected ordnance has been found at Shanklin beach today (Wednesday).

Coastguard teams and police have been made aware of the discovery.

Portsmouth's Royal Navy Bomb Disposal Team are expected to be notified and may also be called to the scene.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said:

"At approx. 10.15am today (24 November), HM Coastguard received a report from a member of the public about suspected ordnance on Shanklin beach. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team and Hampshire Constabulary have been notified.

"Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team have been sent to set up a cordon and provide safety cover until the arrival of the EOD."
