A group of care home residents on the Island are reportedly looking forward to a sweet Easter, thanks to the fundraising efforts of a local college student.

Inver House at Bembridge, which provides specialist residential and dementia care, recently received an Easter egg for each of its 38 residents.

According to the home's management team, the move has "put a smile on all of their faces" and helped them to feel connected with the local community during these isolating times.

The Easter gifts were funded by the appeal of local teenager, Macie Edkins-Wherry.

She reportedly put her pocket money towards the cause and encouraged local businesses to contribute.

Macie’s efforts were even this week recognised at Inver House by Caroline Peel, the Isle of Wight's High Sheriff, who presented her with an award for her outstanding contribution to Island life in time of adversity

Sarah Woodford, manager of Inver House, said:

“This thoughtful gesture has really touched the hearts of all the residents and staff at Inver House.

"Many of our residents have been unable to see their loved ones for such a long time, so feeling connected to their local community really means a lot.

“On behalf of everyone at Inver House, I would like to say a huge ‘Thank you’ to Macie and everyone who has donated to make her generous ambition a reality.

"Our residents will truly be able to have a Happy Easter feeling at the heart of the Bembridge community.”
