Southern Vectis Drivers Threaten Strike Action

Bus drivers at Southern Vectis could go on strike in two weeks time, if the bus company doesn't increase their pay and improve conditions.

Union members at the bus company say they're looking for a "substantial increase in pay and improvement in terms and conditions".

In a recent meeting, Southern Vectis offered a pay freeze across the entire company, which was rejected by the driver's union, the RMT.

It then offered a one-time payment to all drivers of £250, which was, again, rejected.

Southern Vectis has been informed that they are now in a formal dispute with drivers and, if their pay demands are not met within 14 days, a ballot for strike action could follow.

Dozens of services were cut yesterday due to lack of staff, including to routes 1, 5 and 9.

The bus company had previously said that shortages were not due to covid or recruitment but just unavailable staff.

General secretary of the RMT Union, Michael Lynch has written to all members regarding their rates of pay and their terms and conditions.  The letter stated:

"Your union has been in negotiations with Southern Vectis with regards to our pursuit of a substantial increase in pay and improvement in terms and conditions for RMT members at the company."

Southern Vectis has been approached for a statement.
