Southampton Student Accommodation Provider Donates Furniture To UKSA

Every Student and Cowes Movers

A student accommodation provider in Southampton has donated furniture - that would have otherwise gone to waste - to UKSA in Cowes.

Following an upgrade to the rooms at the accommodation, provider Every Student has donated over 80 single mattresses, along with desks and wardrobes, which the maritime charity and RYA training centre can use for live-in students and school pupils staying during residential trips.

The furniture, which was destined for landfill, has been brought to the Island by local firm Cowes Movers free of charge as part of the gesture.

Ben Willows, CEO of UKSA said:

“As an organisation, we are continuously looking for ways to be more sustainable and make a difference where we can. We were delighted when Every Student got in touch to offer the furniture it no longer had a need for.

"We provide adventures for 8,500 children and train over 1,500 professional career students to work within the growing global maritime sector, so making their time with us as comfortable as possible is important but not something we always have funding to prioritise.  This donation will make a huge difference to some of our rooms which were getting tired.”

Alison McCormack, who manages Lucia Foster Welch, said:

“We are delighted to have been able to help UKSA by donating furniture that would otherwise have gone to waste following our refurbishment.  As a company we recognise our responsibility as a local business to promote sustainability and support local charities such as UKSA.”

Paul Travers from Cowes Movers said:

“It was a huge effort from every single person at Cowes Movers to make sure we could make the move happen for UKSA and I’d like to take the opportunity to thank the whole team. We were happy to be a part of such a generous gesture and to take away an additional cost.”
