Seeing A Different Risk Level? Update Your Coronavirus App, Islanders Told

The Government has sought to clear up confusion around its coronavirus contact tracing app after a number of Islanders - residing in the same postcode region - reported seeing a different risk level.

Isle of Wight Radio has seen several examples of app users, some living in the same household, being notified of contrasting risk levels.

In one instance, a Island woman had a 'medium' risk level - but her husband had a 'low' risk level.

Asked why this was, the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC) said users need to update the technology.

A spokesperson told Isle of Wight Radio that once people go to their app store and select update, their risk level should change.

As previously reported, multiple areas on the Island had their level raised from 'low' to 'medium' yesterday.

This prompted the Isle of Wight Council to issue a statement reassuring people that a local lockdown is not imminent.

A DHSC spokesperson said:

"Most LAs in England are now classified as medium risk because either they or their neighbouring local authority has high or rising levels of infection."

Earlier today it was revealed that the app no longer has a 'low risk' category for England.

The app - the second to be trialled on the Isle of Wight - has now launched nationwide. The first was scrapped due to 'technical problems'.

Isle of Wight Radio has asked how many people have downloaded the app on the Island, but has not yet had an answer.
