'Save Amazon World' - Online Campaign Raises More Than £6,000

A campaign to save the Isle of Wight's Amazon World has raised over £6,000 - but more money is still needed.

As Isle of Wight Radio previously reported, there are fears the zoo could close as the coronavirus pandemic devastates a host of Island organisations.

Amazon World has cited a lack of income in the last four months for the doubts over its survival. At this rate, bosses have said it could close permanently by Easter next year.

An online campaign to raise much needed funds for the Newchurch site has received the backing of 252 supporters, who - between them - have donated a total of £6,411.

More than 100 comments have been made in support of the zoo.

A target of £10,000 has been set to safeguard Amazon World's future. The crowdfunder closes on December 8 .
