Ryde's Harbour House Appealing Decision To Reject Late Night Licence

A popular Ryde venue is appealing a council decision to reject an application for it to open into the early hours of the morning.

Harbour House had its plea to stay open until 1.30am, with alcohol and recorded music, rejected by the licence committee in March.

The committee heard how one event, held at the site, shook the windows and furniture of a nearby property.

Representatives from Harbour House argued that other venues in the town were able to open until 2am.

However, the committee said evidence had persuaded it that no conditions could be applied to mitigate the harm caused, and therefore refused the application.

Harbour House has exercised its right to appeal the decision at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court.

Under the Licensing Act 2003, it argues that its application was misrepresented.

It says evidence submitted by the committee was for a separate event run on a temporary event notice, not its current trading licence and the licence it wishes to extend its operating hours.

The hearing is set to take place at Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court tomorrow (Thursday).
