Ryde House Party Shut Down By Police - "Very Drunk People" Dispersed

More than 20 "very drunk people" were sent home from a house party in Ryde last night (Saturday).

Isle of Wight police said it received reports of a breach of restrictions, put in place to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Currently, only groups of six are allowed to meet up under the Government's 'rule of six'.

Posting on Facebook, police revealed that around 25 people were in attendance. The force said the party-goers will now be 'dealt with by way of enforcement'.

Officers have the power to issue a £200 fine, under Government rules. That number could be doubled - up to £3,200 - for successive offences or serious breaches by repeat offenders.

Earlier in the evening officers were also called to reports of a 'covid breach' at Sandown/Shanklin Rugby Club. But upon arrival, they found nothing untoward.
