Revealed: What's Planned For Gurnard's The Little Gloster

A new elevated restaurant is set to rise on the site of what was The Little Gloster in Gurnard.

The Little Gloster, in Gurnard, has been closed for over a year after former owners Ben and Holly Cooke said they were at a crossroads and made the hard decision to close.

Now, a planning application has been submitted by the owners of the building on Marsh Road, Dart and Rich, to demolish the existing restaurant building and build  a replacement raised eatery.

The proposed restaurant would be smaller than the current one, but would have a breakfast location and space for a restaurant or cafe with internal seating for 30 to 40 people as well as outdoor places.

The application also asks to raise the existing holiday accommodation to make it more resilient to flooding while building another residential unit as well.

In planning documents for the development, planning agents said the tenant who last leased the property made considerable alterations to the building and work has been underway to reverse those changes, including demolishing the commercial kitchen.

The latest application follows planning permission granted earlier this year to turn part of the building back into a living area.

Three en-suite B and B rooms are being proposed to be retained as the agent said they would be essential to the survival of the business,

The tenants of the business would be able to occupy the residential unit proposed.

At the time they announced the closure of The Little Gloster, after ten successful years in Gurnard, Ben and Holly said they were brimming with ideas and The Little Gloster would be back when the right one comes along.

The couple have since moved on to other projects, teaming up with UKSA to teach superyacht hospitality training.

You can view the application (21/02081/FUL) on the council’s planning register. Comments can be submitted until November 26.
