Revealed: Program Schedule For Ryde's Annual Carnival Week

The schedule of events for this year's Ryde Carnival Week which starts today (Monday) has been revealed.

The programme marks the launch of Waving the Flag, a three-year project designed to support the growth and sustainability of Ryde’s much loved annual carnival.

Through creative programming and increased opportunities to create props, costumes and floats that relate directly to the town’s heritage, the project will encourage audiences, new and old, to celebrate Ryde’s vibrant carnival traditions.

Ryde Carnival Week Programme

Monday 23 August - Saturday 28 August: Ryde Carnival: A Celebration

An exhibition of costume, props, carnival ephemera and a pop-up cinema will take place at Department (formerly Packs department store) in Cross Street, Ryde and will run throughout Carnival Week.

Competition entries must be submitted by Monday 6b September. Forms can be dropped off at Department (formerly Packs department store).

Monday 23 August – Sunday 5 September: Window Spotting Competition

The annual Window Spotting competition is returning this year and is always a hit with young and old alike! Spot the unusual item in the shop windows displaying a large red dot and you could win a prize.

Competition entry forms will be available for collection from Department (formerly Packs department store) in Cross Street, Ryde and will also be available to download from rydecarnival.com and the Ryde Carnival Facebook page from Sunday 22 August.

Wednesday 2 August: Huxley the magician and children’s competitions

Join Ryde Carnival in the Town Square (outside Co-op) for the ‘Garden in a Wheelbarrow’ competition at 1pm and the Kids Costume competition at 1:30pm with Huxley the magician performing from 2pm. Judging for the competitions will be at 3pm.

Thursday 26 August: Dance Vibez, the RUG Band and New Carnival Company

Dance Vibez will be performing at 11am and music from The RUG Band at 12pm. New Carnival Company will be performing ‘A Potted History of Ryde Carnival’ in the Town Square, Ryde at 2:30pm.

Saturday 28 August: Raw Samba, Carnival walkabouts and dance performance

Raw Samba will be making a lot of noise and looking spectacular at 1pm and Carnival company nShademakers UK will be performing outside the Co-op in the Town Square, Ryde at 2pm.
