REVEALED: Isle Of Wight Swimming Pool Reopening Dates

Swimming pools on the Isle of Wight are opening on Monday (12) - in line with Government guidelines.

It's understood Council-run leisure centres in Newport (Medina) and Sandown (The Heights) and Ryde (Westridge’s) are reopening next week (Monday), in line with the gradual lifting of lockdown across the country.

The West Wight Sports and Community Centre will also reopen on Monday, for the first time in months.

The charity has been supporting the local community throughout the pandemic by delivering hot meals and collecting prescriptions, as well as providing over the phone support.

As Isle of Wight Radio exclusively reported, the site in Freshwater is now acting as a vaccination hub, playing a key roll in the vaccine roll-out program on the Island.

Owner Clare Griffin told Isle of Wight Radio:

"We are over the moon to be opening the swimming pool, gym, courts and children's swimming lessons start back on Tuesday, with schools coming back in next week too. We are doing everything we are allowed to do.

"You can either phone us to book or do it online, you can't just turn up, everything is on our website and booking online is really simple, get a pin and registered and when you are set up it is easy. We cannot wait to reopen on Monday and welcome everyone back."

Ryde's Waterside Pool also plans to open on Monday.

A spokesperson said:

'We are thrilled to be able to reopen again on Monday 12th April. We cannot wait to see all our wonderful members and customers.

'We feel so incredibly fortunate to open again, thanks to the support during all temporary closures over the last year from Ryde Town Council and the Isle of Wight Council.'

Alex Minns, Assistant Director of neighbourhoods, for 1Leisure added:

"The 1Leisure team are busy getting all the centres ready for our members to get fit and stay fit.

"We're excited that the full 1Leisure service is coming back at last, and we're determined to make it work.

"We'll be making sure that everyone - staff and visitors alike - will be safe when they come to one of our facilities.

"So be sure to follow the instructions the staff give you, and check our website regularly to keep up to date with the latest news.

"That way we will be doing our bit to keep the Island safe, and make sure we can fully reopen on June 21."
