The Travellers Joy in Cowes has been named the Island's favourite pub by the Isle of Wight's real ale lovers.

Members of the Isle of Wight branch of CAMRA (the Campaign for Real Ale) have been voting in the annual competition.

They say they wanted to give something back to the Island's landlords after what has been an "extremely difficult" year.

And the 2020 winners are...

Best Pub (in order)

  1. Travellers Joy, Northwood

  2. Newport Ale House, Newport

  3. King Harrys Bar, Shanklin

  4. Highdown Inn, Totland

Best Beer (in order)

  1. Earls R.D.A, Island Brewery
  2. Fuggle-Dee-Dum, Goddards
  3. Yachtsman Ale, Island Brewery
  4. Dark Side of the Wight, Yates

Chairman of the Isle of Wight CAMRA branch, John Nicholson, said:

"This year has been very difficult for publicans, putting them under extraordinary pressure in these unprecedented times, some fighting for their very survival. It is gratifying to see the efforts that some landlords have put in to dealing with the situation in focusing on providing important and, some would say essential, facilities for the healthy functioning of communities and people's wellbeing (whether you drink alcohol or not) being reflected in this year's vote.

"I would like to thank, in appreciation, all those who partaken in this year's event and especially our Mike Hoar for his excellent performance in organising the voting."
