Revealed: Christ The King College Inspection Following Ofsted Rating

Pupils of Christ The King College told Ofsted inspectors how much they appreciate dedicated staff throughout the Covid period.

In an additional monitoring inspection of the school, carried out due to the school’s inadequate Ofsted rating, inspectors looked at how the school was coping due to serious weaknesses found in previous inspections.

In a letter to the executive headteacher, Matthew Quinn, inspectors said it was taking effective action to provide education over the lockdown periods.

Inspector Matthew Newberry wrote how pupils continued to receive a broad education, with the school supporting many with internet access and appropriate devices, reducing any barriers that stopped children from being able to access their education.

New systems were introduced which allowed students to have more regular contact with teachers and for their engagement in online learning to be monitored.

Most pupils were accessing their remote learning regularly.

A small number were less engaged, with staff working to identify strategies on how to help them.

At the time of the inspection, early February, only a small proportion of pupils were educated on site.

Following on from the school’s last inspection, it was found leaders had introduced new subject planning for years seven to nine to raise the level of challenge and build on prior knowledge.

Teachers had been creative over the pandemic, developing new resources and approaches for their curriculum plans and were aware of which aspects needed to be revisited once they were back in schools.

Speaking to the inspectors, pupils said they appreciated how hard their teachers had been working to support them with their learning, especially in exam years 11 and 13.

It was noted the school was aware some Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) pupils were experiencing challenges accessing their work remotely but specialist staff were working with parents on this.
