GCSE leavers at Priory School have been given the red carpet treatment for a formal school send-off.

Students at Priory School donned their finest clothes and were treated to an open top bus tour as they enjoyed their belated leavers ceremony.

The original celebration was due to be held in June but was postponed due to Coronavirus.

However, the school - based in Whippingham - and the pupil’s families felt it was important to make sure the students still received an appropriate send-off.

The Head of Senior School, Mrs Soar was delighted her students were not deprived of their day.

She said:

"This year has been challenging for everyone, our leavers this year coped remarkably well, and managed to achieve outstanding results.

“As a school we like to celebrate their successes and this is our way of recognising the value they added to the school, and to provide a final celebration."

As per tradition, the students were clapped on by the whole school as they walked the red carpet, before boarding The Southern Vectis Old Girl open top bus for a short Island tour.

Afterwards, the school leavers and tutors were treated to a sit down, three-course meal at Albert Cottage.
