Public Appeal After Car Boot Hand Sanitiser Stations Destroyed By Vandals

A public appeal for donations has been set up following the destruction of several hand sanitiser dispensers installed for use at an Isle of Wight car boot.

The discovery of the broken units was made by organiser Peter Smith in the early hours of this morning (Sunday), ahead of the day's car boot sale at Staplehurst Grange near Newport.

In a post to potential sellers and buyers, Peter urged them to bring their own hand sanitiser, after parts of the automatic dispensing units were scattered across the field.

Peter wrote:

"If you are coming up today please bring all hand sanitiser and wipes with you as someone has destroyed all of my hand sanitizing units across site.

"They have been pulled off and broken, so there is no hand sanitiser on the site at this present time."

The units had been bought at a cost of £25 a unit to ensure that the car boot sales were coronavirus secure.

Visitors to the car boot have set up a GoFundMe donation page in an attempt to help the organisers replace the four units.
