Prestigious Cycle-Food Weekend On Isle Of Wight Postponed

Sir Bradley Wiggins

The prestigious Le Blanq Tour expected to come to the Isle of Wight at the end of this month (September) has been postponed.

Just two days ago, Isle of Wight Radio spoke to the man behind the idea to bring what's been described as a “high profile and high value” event - which is a gastronomic-cycling weekend, (meaning cyclists will get the chance to ride and dine) for the LeBlanq Tour.

Councillor Gary Peace says the decision to postpone the event comes as Boris Johnson introduced the "rule of six" from Monday, meaning groups of no larger than six can get together at one time. In certain situations like offices and schools the rules don't apply.

Cllr Peace says the event will return in 2021, he told Isle of Wight Radio:

'There has been a huge amount of work put in to get this event off the ground in record breaking time and whilst I am obviously very disappointed by the news, it is entirely the right decision by the organisers in light of the new rules on social gatherings announced by government this week to postpone this month's LeBlanq Tour.

'I can confirm that the Island looks forward to will host this prestigious event early next year.'

The weekend would see around 100 paying guests have the privilege of cycling with Olympic stars Bradley Wiggins and Sean Yates.

Those who can afford the packages would also indulge in five-star meals courtesy of Michelin star chefs Raymond Blanc and Ashley Palmer-Watts.
