Police Thank Member Of The Public After Man Arrested In Newport

Police have thanked a member of the public after he helped to detain a man on the Isle of Wight.

Officers were attempting to arrest a man on suspicion of robbery in Newport yesterday (Friday).

A man was being restrained by police at Morrison's supermarket when a member of the public stepped in to help.

Posting on Facebook, Isle of Wight Police said:

"If you were the male who was shopping with your children in Morrison's, Newport and you assisted my colleague and I in restraining a male in the car park who we had arrested on a suspicion of a robbery offence then thank you!

"Often members of the public help us at incidents in one form or another and at the scene we don't get time to obtain their details. Sometimes they even risk getting hurt themselves.

"I often see bodyworn video footage of the public assisting us and they don’t get the credit they should. If that was you, then I hope you see this."

Good evening, It won't be a long post from me today as I was very late off but I will pop a full update on when I’m...
