Police Step Up Patrols To Enforce No Driving Through Ryde Pedestrian Area

Facebook: Isle of Wight Police

Police have been stepping up patrols to prevent motorists driving through a pedestrianised area of Ryde High Street.

This week, officers have been conducting foot patrols in the town centre, with a particular focus on the issue of vehicles driving through the top section of the High Street.

PC McGachie and PCSO HULL have been making themselves visible in the area, stopping vehicles from driving when there are road signs stating this is not allowed.

On Facebook, Isle of Wight Police said:

"A number of cars have been stopped and spoken to regarding this matter, and both of the officers have been working closely with Ryde Town Council to enforce either a new road barrier to be put in place, or for local traffic wardens to patrol the area on a frequent basis.

"Ryde Town Council is on board with this issue and are actively putting steps in place to prevent any further vehicles using this area of the high street.

"Delivery vehicles are allowed to use this part of the road between the hours of 6am-10am. After 10am there should be NO vehicle access for any reason and these rules are enforced seven days a week."
