Police Officers Taken To Hospital After Sandown Crash

Two police officers have been taken to hospital after a Mini collided with a police van in Sandown.

The ambulance service, fire service and police were all called to the junction of Fitzroy Street and Leed Street just before 8pm tonight (Thursday).

A Mini is understood to have driven into the path of a police van from Leed Street, which was on normal patrol - according to police.

Significant damage has been caused to the police van, while the occupants of both vehicles have been taken to hospital.

Police have confirmed on the Isle of Wight Police Facebook page that the driver of the Mini has been arrested on suspicion of drink/drug driving.

The passenger of the mini has been taken to hospital. 

It’s also been confirmed that two police officers have been taken to hospital.

All next of kin have been notified.

Both roads have been closed for several hours.

Police Sgt Radford added:

“Thank you for being understanding whilst the road is closed and we make some noise at this late hour.”
