Person Cut Free By Firefighters Following Crash Near Yarmouth

One person had to be cut free from a vehicle after a crash near Yarmouth last night (Sunday).

Emergency crews were called to reports of a crash involving two vehicles on Hallets Shute - the main road between Yarmouth and Freshwater.

The driver and passenger of one vehicle managed to self extricate and were checked over and discharged on scene, according to the Friends of Freshwater Fire Station.

The driver of the second vehicle was assisted from the vehicle by firefighters, while the passenger had to be extricated via long board and a roof flap manoeuvre using cutting gear.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said two adult casualties were transported to St Mary’s Hospital via ambulance.

On scene were Freshwater, Yarmouth and Newport fire crews, Isle of Wight Ambulance and 111 Service and local police as well as ambulance and fire service duty officers.

Friends of Freshwater Fire Station called it:

"Another great example of team work between emergency services."
