People 'Trapped' Following "Serious" Two-Car Crash In Newport

Firefighters are working to free occupants of a vehicle trapped following crash in Newport this afternoon (Wednesday).

The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has been called to Long Lane, outside P and G Farm Supplies.

Two vehicles have been involved in the incident, according to the fire service. 

Two fire appliances and emergency services are at the scene, having been called at 12pm.

*Police say the incident is "serious".

Long lane is closed from Staplers Roundabout to Briddlesford Road.

 A spokesperson said:

"We can confirm that we were called out to an incident at 11.57am today (18 Nov) to reports of a two-vehicle collision on Long Farm Road. A Honda and a Vauxhall were involved in a collision, resulting in the Honda leaving the road and coming to rest in hedges on the roadside leaving a driver trapped inside the vehicle.

"Hampshire Fire and Rescue Services extracted the driver from the vehicle and appears to have suffered minor injuries."

Please avoid the area if you can.

*The road has now reopened, according to police.
