One In, One Out As Part Of Isle Of Wight Council Cabinet Shake-Up

One councillor will be replaced by another as part of an Isle of Wight Council Cabinet reshuffle.

Council leader Dave Stewart has confirmed Cllr Brian Tyndall will fill the void left by Cllr John Hobart, who will focus on his local ward.

Cllr Tyndall has, to date, been chairing the Council's Audit Committee. Cllr Stewart said:

“Let me conclude by thanking Councillor Hobart for all the work he has put into Cabinet during his time with us and I hope he has the opportunity he desires to get back to the grassroots of his ward responsibilities.

"I am fortunate to have a very skilled and supportive Cabinet Team and this appointment ensures that approach will continue over the coming weeks and months ahead.”

As part of the changes, deputy council leader Cllr Stuart Hutchinson, will now lead the council's Coronavirus Recovery Plan.

He will retain responsibility for the council's overall Strategic Financial Management as it looks to overturn a £10 million deficit, brought on by the pandemic

Cllr Stewart says Cllr Tyndall will pick up responsibilities for the portfolio responsibility for general Finance & Resources - enabling Cllr Hutchinson to concentrate on and deal with the strategic priorities outlined.

Cllr Stewart said:

“Our Recovery Plan and the Strategic Financial Management that must accompany it have become an absolute priority for this Administration as we look to continue to safely manage our response to Covid 19 and rebuild our Island Economy.

"Councillor Stuart Hutchinson is just the person to lead on this and I know he holds the confidence and respect of all members.”

Cllr Tyndall will come into the Cabinet from September 1.
