One In Hospital, One Arrested After Ryde Stabbing

One person has been airlifted to hospital - and another has been arrested and bailed - following a stabbing in Ryde.

Police were called to an address in Green Street just before midnight on Saturday (23).

A man suffered a stab wound during, what police say, was an altercation.

A 47-year-old Newport man, arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, has been bailed with conditions until November 21.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance landed at Simeon Street Recreation Ground shortly before 12.30am on Sunday morning.

Upon arrival, a doctor and a paramedic were met by officers and transported to a property.

An Air Ambulance spokesperson said:

"We were dispatched to an incident in Ryde following a 999 call at 11.52pm.

"The aircraft, which had three persons on board: a Pilot, Dr and Specialist Paramedic, landed at 12.28am at a nearby site known as Simeon Street Recreation Ground, which is suitable for night landing.

"The crew were then transported to the scene to assist. The patient was then transported at 1.45am by Air Ambulance to University Hospital Southampton."

Both men are said to be known to each other.

Police say enquiries are continuing to establish the exact circumstances.
