O-No? Oh-Yes! Island Couple In Rare Isle Of Wight Festival Photo Charity Shop Find

(c) Jen Edgington

A couple from the Isle of Wight were shocked when a charity shop frame purchase resulted in the discovery of a legendary Kodak snap.

Jen Edgington took to social media to share her wonderful find - a photograph of John Lennon, Yoko Ono and Jane Fonda on the Isle of Wight during the iconic 1969 festival in Wootton.

Jen posted:

"My hubby bought a picture in a charity shop, just for the frame he liked and when he took the back (off it, a) Kodak photo was hidden behind the picture.

"It says 'John Lennon, Yoko Ono, and Jane Fonda, Wootton I.W. 1969.' and is signed by a D white."

Reg White, nephew of the photographer, Doug White, got in touch with Isle of Wight Radio to further unpack this magical mystery find, saying:

"When Reg died his photos and original negatives all went to my father or are here with me.

"I saw in the images that there was a developers' code printed on the back.

"Doug used to sell some of his photos through "That Shop" in Cowes, and would subsequently sign them."

Many of Doug White's iconic photos have been displayed at Dimbola Lodge in Freshwater, and his legacy continues to delight (and surprise) those who stumble upon those timeless images.
