NHS App Helping Parents Find Healthier Options This February Half Term

A new NHS app aims to encourage families to eat well healthier this half-term and beyond.

As part of the Better Health campaign, the NHS Food Scanner App includes a new ‘scan, swipe and swap’ feature.

New research highlights that almost two fifths of parents always buy crisps and over a third always buy chocolate during their food shop.

When asked what snacks they would like to find healthier alternatives for, the top listed were chocolate (34%), crisps (31%) biscuits (29%) and cakes (27%).

As part of the campaign, Netmums polled families across England about their children’s eating habits; it revealed nearly half (48%) of parents said they often or always find it hard to say no to their children when they pester them for sugary snacks, and when pestered.

It’s no surprise pester power can get the better of parents during half term, and in turn over two thirds of parents (67%) said they would like more advice and ‘hacks’ on how to improve their children's diets.
