Newport's Poundstretcher To Close Doors Within Two Weeks

A popular discount store in Newport is set to close its doors by the end of August, after signs in the windows announcing its closure were posted this morning (Saturday).

According to members of staff who have spoken exclusively to Isle of Wight Radio, the announcement was made internally on Wednesday.

The news comes after the retailer announced in June it could close 250 of its stores and cut more than 2,000 jobs in the UK, as part of a 'rescue package', and asked landlords to back a creditor's voluntary arrangement (CVA) in an attempt to cut rents on stores.

It's currently unclear as to how many jobs will be lost on the Island in the closure - believed to be taking place by the end of August.

Isle of Wight Radio has contacted Poundstretcher's head office for a comment on the closure.
