New World Record? Newport’s Quay Arts Sets Self-Portrait Challenge

The Isle of Wight’s Quay Arts Centre is aiming to smash a world record - set by itself - in a bid to raise vital funds amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Newport venue is calling on ALL Islanders to draw a self-portrait for its Breakout! exhibition.

It comes 20 years after its My Millennium display ended up in the Guinness Book of Records.

A staggering 13,626 children submitted self-portraits in 2000 - making it the largest collection ever recorded.

This time round, people of all ages are being encouraged to take part.

If you want to get involved, all you need to do is submit a self-portrait measuring 10cm x 10cm. That can be done on the Quay Arts website.

As a self-financed charity, Quay Arts relies on income from trading, but it has been hit hard over the last few months.

It is asking for a £1 donation from Islanders to help keep its doors open. It aims to raise £20,000.
