The Isle of Wight Met Service has issued a yellow weather warning this morning (Saturday) on the heels of the carnage caused by Storm Eunice yesterday.

Friday had seen English record wind speeds recorded off the Needles, when gusts reached an astonishing 122mph.

Today's warning is for further gale force winds between 11am and 4pm.

Stormy weather will cross the south of the UK, bringing heavy rain and strong south-westerly winds of up to 70mph in places.

Falling tree debris such as twigs, branches are likely, while trees weakened by Eunice may fall.

There is further structural damage possible to buildings, exacerbated by Friday’s storm.

Very large waves are likely around the exposed coasts, with wave heights in excess of five metres along with sudden wave surges – where two or more waves combine – giving a sweeping affect which will be hazardous to beach walkers.

Travel and transport is also likely to be disrupted.

A further warning has been issued from midday to 9pm on Sunday, with winds again expected to reach 70mph in exposed areas.
