New Drop In Mental Health Service Available For Young People On Isle Of Wight

A new mental health drop-in service will be available for youngsters on the Isle of Wight every Wednesday afternoon.

The Isle of Wight Youth Trust has made the announcement today (Tuesday) in response to Youth Mental Health Day.

The Drop-In will be available to Islanders aged 13-25 and their parents or carers every Wednesday from 2pm to 5pm.

Youth Trust Wellbeing Practitioners will be available to offer information, guidance and support.

Lewis, one of the Wellbeing Practitioners who will be delivering the Drop-In, explained that this service completed the charities established youth mental health services.

He said:

“Our Drop-In sessions are part of the Youth Trust’s ongoing goal to ensure that young people have somewhere to turn to discuss their emotional wellbeing and available services. By providing a friendly and non-judgemental setting, we are hoping to break down some of the stigma that exists around mental health and support young people to understand what is on offer."

He added:

“We often hear that young people aren’t sure if the problems they may be facing are ‘big enough’ to come to counselling or receive support. They might be unsure about how our services work, have questions about our group programmes or just be curious about what goes on behind our jungle-themed window display. This is an opportunity, to come and have any questions about the Youth Trust and our work answered.”

“There is no need to make an appointment, just show up on Wednesday between 2pm – 5pm and we’ll be here to offer information, support and guidance. As with all Youth Trust services, our Drop-In is free to young people 25 and under. Parents and carers with questions about how to support their young people are also welcome to stop by.”

The Youth Trust Mental Health Drop In will run from The Hub, 114 Pyle Street Newport, PO30 1XA for further information contact [email protected] or 01983 529 569.
