More 'Affordable Houses' Proposed For Rookley

More affordable houses have been proposed for a Rookley development.

Island developers, Captiva Homes, has already got permission from the Isle of Wight Council to demolish an industrial building and construct 21 homes on the edge of Rookley, off Blackwater Hollow.

Now, new proposals have been submitted to add a further seven homes on the partial brownfield site, taking the total number of bungalows and houses proposed to 28.

Ten houses are proposed to be affordable — four one and six two-beds — with the remaining 18, a mixture of two, three and four-bed market value bungalows and houses.

Planning agents BCM said the development has commenced for the 21 houses but Captiva is seeking to improve the scheme by taking into account the need for more affordable houses.

In the planning statement, submitted as part of the documents the council will consider, BCM said the increased number of dwellings has been carefully designed to allow views through the development, “to create an ‘edge of village’ development in a sustainable location.”

It said:

“The proposal provides an attractive, functional and accessible environment that contributes to the sense of place.

“It has regard to existing constraints such as adjacent buildings, topography, views and other landscape features to be well situated against the landscape character.”

Public open space is also included in the proposals, next to the public footpath.

Comments will be accepted until February 12, 2021.
