Met Office Upgrades Weather Warning To Red For the Isle Of Wight

The Met Office has upgraded its weather warning for extreme weather from Amber to Red for the Isle of Wight today (Friday).

Yesterday, the Isle of Wight Met Service warned of high winds - with gusts predicted to reach around 100mph in some parts of the Island.

The Met Office has now updated its prediction, with much of the south covered by the red warning - which is in force between 10am-3pm.

A number of schools are closed on the Island today - you can find the LIVE list here - https://www.iwradio.co.uk/news/isle-of-wight-news/live-isle-of-wight-school-closures-as-storm-eunice-hits/

Storm Eunice has been declared a major incident by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Local Resilience Forum, due to the potential for severe disruption. People are being advised to stay at home.

The Met Office said:

"Extremely strong west to southwesterly winds will develop mid-morning on Friday, transferring eastwards across southern and southeast England through the middle of the day then slowly easing from the west during the afternoon."
