March 29: Easing Of More Coronavirus Lockdown Restrictions

An easing of England's coronavirus lockdown rules means people are now allowed more freedom outdoors.

Groups of up to six - or two households - can now socialise together in parks and gardens.

Open air sports facilities can also start-up again.

From today (March 29):

  • The rule of six returns, along with new measures meaning two households (no more than six people) can meet outdoors, including in private gardens. Social distancing rules apply.
  • Football and cricket pitches, tennis and basketball courts, outdoor swimming pools, golf courses and sailing clubs are free to reopen
  • Organised team sports can also resume outdoors
  • The Government will drop the stay-at-home message and will instead encourage people to stay local

  • People will still have to work from home where possible and no overseas travel will be allowed, apart from a small list of exceptions
  • Outdoor parent and child groups can meet (up to 15 people, excluding under 5s)

England's Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty, said the number of coronavirus cases in the UK has been reduced during national lockdowns "thanks to the efforts of the public".

But he added that it is "very clear that outdoor spaces are safer than indoors".
