Man Wanted By Police After Elderly Isle Of Wight Residents Targeted

A 43-year-old man is wanted by police in connection with a number of incidents, which saw elderly Isle of Wight residents targeted.

Hampshire Constabulary says a Freshwater woman, in her 90s, had money taken from her purse while she lay in bed on August 9.

The same woman was targeted again yesterday (Thursday), where a similar incident occurred and money was again taken.

This week officers have had other reports of doorstep sellers, colloquially known by some as ‘Nottingham Knockers’, attending people’s addresses.

The circumstances are that elderly people have been visited at their home address, and it’s been reported that vulnerable people have been charged extortionate prices for standard cleaning products such as dish cloths.

On one occasion, a vulnerable person parted with their bank details and had close to £300 taken.

As part of investigations, officers are looking to speak to Matthew Peter Shipman. He is described as white, approximately 5ft 11ins tall, medium build, with very short brown hair and hazel eyes.

If you see him, police are urging you to dial 999.
