Man Taken To Hospital After Falling From Wall In Shanklin

Fire crews were called to two separate incidents in Shanklin this morning (Wednesday), with a man taken to hospital as a result of one of them.

The man had fallen from a courtyard wall in Regent Street, with a fire crew from Ryde assisting him into a waiting ambulance alongside medical staff.

He is reported to have suffered serious — but non-life threatening — injuries, having subsequently been transported to St Mary's Hospital in Newport.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) say they received the initial call shortly after 11am.

Fire on Shanklin beach

Crews from Ryde and Shanklin had earlier been called to a smouldering fire on Shanklin beach.

A spokesperson for HIWFRS said:

"We were called to an area of Shanklin beach adjacent to Luccombe Road at 10.33am after a fallen tree fell onto a fire.

"A 4x4 vehicle was sent to winch the tree away from the burning undergrowth.

"An axe and buckets of water were used to put the fire out and secure the area."

The incident is not thought to be suspicious.
