A man has been arrested on suspicion of a daytime robbery in Newport.
Officers were called out to an incident at 2.32pm yesterday afternoon (Thursday) following reports of a robbery in South Street in Newport.
A 36-year-old man from the Freshwater area was approached by two men who subsequently stolen a quantity of cash from the victim’s wallet.
A short while later, officers located a man matching the description provided by the victim in a Morrison’s car park in Church Litten, Newport.
A member of the public was praised by police for helping to detain a man at Morrison's supermarket.
Hampshire Constabulary said that a 39-year-old man from Newport was arrested on suspicion of robbery and threat to damage or destroy property. He remains in custody.
A 38-year-old man from Sandown was arrested on suspicion of robbery, but was later released under investigation.
