Major Coppins Bridge Works Get Underway Today (Monday)

The first phase of works to improve traffic signals at Coppins Bridge start today (Monday).

Lights at the junction of St George’s Way and Coppins Bridge are being upgraded.

Manually-operated temporary lights are in place. Lane closures will be implemented overnight.

The works are part of major scheme to improve traffic signals on the main Newport route.

They were due to start last year, but were delayed over a lack of consultation.

The majority of the work will take place overnight. Island Roads, on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council, is installing latest ‘intelligent technology’ to make traffic lights more reliable and energy efficient.

Four pedestrian crossings in the area will also be upgraded to incorporate the latest LED, low-energy technology.

You can see a timetable of the works here.
