Lockdown: What Are You Doing To Make It 'Less Boring' On The Isle Of Wight?

Creatives at Independent Arts are aiming to create a “positive record” of the lockdown on the Isle of Wight - which future generations can look back on in years to come.

As previously reported by Isle of Wight Radio, the Newport-based charity launched the Island-wide initiative ‘Looking Out From Lockdown’ - to celebrate the creativity of Islanders during the peaks of the pandemic.

The Island’s Lord-Lieutenant Susie Sheldon, who is fully supporting and promoting the project, exclusively told Isle of Wight Radio:

“Looking Out From Lockdown is a project to get everybody in their homes being creative. I think lots of people have been being creative - but what are doing along with Independent Arts is offering is a vehicle to display all the amazing work people have been doing - and encourage people to do more.”

Initially, there will be an easily accessible online gallery but once restrictions are lifted all the work will be officially exhibited in venues across the Isle of Wight.

Speaking exclusively to Isle of Wight Radio, CEO of Independent Arts Lisa Gagliani said:

“We know during the pandemic that people are being incredibly creative, many are turning to baking, gardening, painting, photo diaries and things like this and of course some people are turning to music-making and songwriting.

“We want this exhibition to be an exploration of all those different genres - so yes it is arty but we are looking for anything from poems to short stories to mini DIY projects.

“Anything that you’re doing that is making lockdown slightly less boring and more theraputic - there is a category for you.”
